While I don't have mplayer installed my file worked OK with Amarok, Rhythmbox, Xine, Totem and VLC.
After trying those apps out I then did a complete uninstall of the current version of Audacity on my computer. Then powered down. After a few minutes I came back and did a complete reinstall of the application, including the one in the archives that says audacity-dbg. Same distortion problems. This is maddening!! Have never used the .dbg mode. Would it show anything that might help figuring out what is going on here? If so, how do I envoke dbg mode in Audacity? Am heading out of the house right now so will check mail later this evening.
