the 2 files i just posted are created with a jaunty live cd
i did the same thing with karmic again and i noticed:
if i plug in the usb cable i get the following dmesg output

what i dont get: i can see the printer in the output of sudo lsusb -v(attached) 
but not in a normal lsusb (i did see the printer in jaunty). here is the lsusb 
karmic output:
