What vnc server software is used on the server side on windows? Such ugly coloring happens to me with VNC on windows very often. I usually blame the windows machine or a bad combination of vnc-client and -server. VNC can renegotiate color, compression and update protocols while being connected. I regularly suffer from getting a whole-screen update between two different color sets, making the whole screen "blink" in dark and bright (the blinking is to be blamed on other forks of vnc though).
