Same problem here only that I am not using PPP as you can see in
modules, and a CIFS VFS error appears in the log (I don't know if this
could cause the error or if the CIFS error is produced because of the
scheduling while atomic.

In my case it is Ubuntu Server 9.10 with all updates applied.

Server freezes and has to be rebooted. So upgrading servers to 9.10 can
be really dangerous.

Same server with version 9.04 works like a charm.
