I am sorry but using the current PPA for Karmic (https://launchpad.net/~openshot.developers/+archive/ppa) totally breaks the gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg and thus makes video play in any gstreamer player unusable (including thumbnail creation of videos in nautilus). You should consider fixing this before adding to main Ubuntu repos...
