I can switch video modes with Fn+F4 button without problems after I have
connected external monitor, there are no crashes happening before I
cycle to the left to right connected monitors which crashes my driver
but only when compiz is started with metacity there is no crash
happening.

This odd behavior it started happening after latest updates I installed.
Before that behavior was different, when I have connected the monitor
nothing happened before I pressed fn+F4 button, that would only mirror
internal monitor on external and it would stay like that after repeated
fn+F4 presses. First I needed to start monitor settings tool with that i
could then make settings that I wanted and they would then be saved and
reused on system start. For me external monitor never was switched on
automatically by the gnome-settings-daemon only enabled but it stayed
off until I have pressed fn+F4 button or activated the external monitor
in monitor setting tool, it was like that also with ubuntu version prior
to karmic.

Now it behaves like I described.
