The text on the button I have in Synaptic, under the list of actual
sections, is called 'Sections' because it is a list of sections. But
that's not relevant.

The action required of the user is still to choose a section. It is
still not possible in Synaptic to select several sections(pl).

But:

If you interpret the instructions to mean that they should press the
button marked 'Sections' and then select the category, then you're
right. The standard in Ubuntu-doc for writing that is :

"In case you do not know the name of the package, choose 'Sections' in
the lower left part of the window, choose the appropriate category, and
find the package name in the list."
