I don't know if this is related at all--but I haven't noticed this bug ever since I fixed this related bug: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1237608. I haven't spent significant amounts of time testing it, and can't say that wasn't something else that fixed it--but if you use compiz and have an nvidia card it would definitely be worth trying.
