This is nothing to do with firefox (tho that crashes all the time) I have an ever present clicking/interference sound. Two three seconds silence then a split second of what sounds like either an amplifier being turned on or clicking or sometimes whitenoise type interference. It varies between the three sounds. Volume control makes no difference to the volume of the sound. It is also ever present, from the moment I switch the computer on until I switch it off. In every package - movieplayer, firefox, no application at all, rhythmbox etc etc. No problems until I upgraded to 9.10.
