Replaced kernel parameters quiet splash with nomodeset Then File, save. File, Quit. To change the mode of /boot/grub/grub.cfg back to its default value, in a terminal used sudo chmod 555 /boot/grub/grub.cfg Restarted computer So far (24 Nov 2009 4 pm IST) no hang and acpi features also works. If hangs I will post.
