Amarok/KDE does not use devicekit-disks yet, and neither media-player- id. So it could be a regression in hal (although that hardly changed at all in karmic), or in Amarok itself, or in KDE's handling of storage devices.
Just to ensure that the device is recognized at the hardware level, please plug it in, and then do lshal > /tmp/hal.txt dmesg > /tmp/dmesg.txt and then attach /tmp/hal.txt and /tmp/dmesg.txt here.
