I've been working on this too. The problem seems to be that the DVD needs to be mounted before you start ripping. If you just insert the DVD and rip it, dvd::rip does not copy the ifo files to the correct place. If you make sure the DVD is mounted first then it will copy the ifo files and vobsub creation will work.
Cerainly on my system, inserting a DVD does not mount it.
