I have been bitten by this several times in Karmic. For what it's worth I run FC12 on the same machine, and so far I haven't been bitten by it there. (I believe FC12 also uses kernel 2.6.31).
I'll be getting more experience with FC12 now, since crashing every two hours isn't acceptable.
