cyberorg: I struggle to believe it's the same on hardware types - it's _always_ been hardware specific in the dozens, if not hundreds of cases I've looked at. Please can you double check?
I would like to see a list of gfx cards you've tried with driver type and version, and a screenshot from each. Note that there are different categories of problem - some affect the intel cards, others the SIS cards, and still others the ATI cards (especially the ATI cards). They look quite different once you've seen a few of them, but you might not easily distinguish them if you are not used to it.
