Public bug reported:

The computer I am reporting the bug from is not the affected machine,
which is in fact a Sony VAIO laptop running a fresh install of ubuntu
9.10; I have to file it from my laptop because it is the computer of a
friend that just got back home from his tour of duty in Iraq, and he
does not have internet access where he lives. The VAIO has both an SD
card reader slot, and another slot for Magic Gate cards. Dmesg does not
show anything when either an SD card or a magic gate card is inserted or
removed. lspci command shows that both internal card readers are at
least detected, but the lights on the front of the laptop do not even
come on as they did in windows. Everything else on the machine works as
expected outside of the two Ricoh internal card readers. Please keep in
mind that any request for logs off of the affected machine will not be
an expedient process due to the lack of access I have to the machine due
to time constraints and physical distance. Please do let me know what
logs to include, and anything I can due to test the machine in order to
provide you ladies and gentlemen with the output data you need.

Ricoh internal SD card and Magic Gate readers do not work. The power lights
will not even come on, but work fine in Windows Vista
