Public bug reported:

Downloaded a 15 minute TV program from 
http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/ 
The player suggested that plugins must be downloaded.
Sound did not work on initial playback.
Workaround after failure:
Just tried stopping the media player and restarting and all now works.
