Sorry to waste your time, but that's a different issue. Ubuntu has played that drum sound at the gdm prompt since at least 5.10, independent of the sound settings. I don't know how to disable it, because it's the only startup sound that didn't bother me (It's very short and sort of unintrusive, in my opinion).This bug is about the login sound that plays after you enter your credentials, which to me is like a tacky remix of the oldschool Mac startup sound (apologies to whoever made it, but really).
