I too experienced something very similar.  I had selected to remove
cupsys-common because of problems that were created after my last
upgrade.  When I clicked the button to remove, a ton of KDE packages
were removed without so much as any confirmation.  WOW... left me with a
TOTALLY useless kubuntu system.  THANK GOODNESS I had just made a dd
backup of my system and was able to boot off the alternate disk.  This
sure does not boost any confidence in the adept package system.
