I'm totally aware of the problem. I think manually editing the profiles is neither a simple or an elegant solution. I also think the majority of soundconverter users prefer it the way it is. Gnome audio profiles are more ripping/recording oriented.
A simple and elegant solution would be to use gnome audio profiles, and make a powerful graphical editor for them.
