Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus
There are similar bugs to this one but as far as I am aware this has not been reported - so apologies if I have missed something. Other users have also reported a similar problem here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1306333&page=1 I start a file/folder transfer process (~7GB) from my hard drive to a USB drive - in this instance a 32GB USB 2.0 Transcend stick. The transfer starts at a fast 25-28 Mbps but quickly (within a minute) drops steadily until it reaches around 10 Mbps or so. If this is normal (I don't see why) Nautilus should be configured to warn the user. A very similar problem occurs on a transfer across my local network to an SMB location. A file transfer process (typically 7-8 GB) will start at around 5 Mbps but quickly and steadily ramp down to around 1Mbps. Interestingly, in the past I have at times (but not very often) seen the speed go up again for a while (say to 1.5 or 1.8 mbps) only to drop off down to 1mbps or so. The transfer rates I am quoting are not consistent across events but just some typical numbers I have noticed. Some times it is less some times it is more - but the trend is always the same: starts fast but quickly ramps down to a much more sedate (and therefore annoying) pace. I have filed this as a problem with nautilus, but it may be a wider problem with the kernel as some of the respondents on the above link appear to suggest. I have not duplicated this on the terminal but can try if such confirmation is required.
