Sorry for spamming with comments but it might be usefull to tell that this high 
CPU usage is the same with all the possible situations: audacity minimized, 
maximized, displaying/refreshing voice graphs or not (everything while voice 
recording) and even with paused recording waiting for sound from (sound card) 
line input. When the recording is stopped CPU usage gets back to normal.
I've checked the ubiquity problem (by running ubiquity on my already installed 
and updated system) and it's not the same like this one - there ubiquity (even 
on idle) eats almost all CPU and Xorg is on second place (with high CPU usage, 
too).
