In the guest session the problem doesn't occur, the F9 key works great. 
The test environment from that first command you've sent me recognizes 
the F9 key being pressed.

On the other side, on my own account the test environment doesn't output 
anything, just freezes into that gray layer (and recovers when i click 
somewhere). Seems like the F9 signal messes something around. So I guess 
this isn't a Gedit bug after all, but instead I must've done something 
nasty when i customized my desktop (installing theme, icon-theme, 
applets, etc)... My most sincere apologies if I wasted your time, it's 
just that I'm not so intimate with the linux environment when it comes 
to debugging so I thought this issue might be from the distro.

Anyway, I've attached the /tmp folder with the output from the commands 
you said; the "sudo lsinput > lsinput.log" said "lsinput: command not 
found".
