Same here on my laptop! Same laptop! Fullscreen videos on build-in display (1680x1050) are choppy no matter I play them with vlc or flash. Even small flash videos running choppy.
I realized this problem some time ago: In Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty I added X -org-edgers PPA to solve flickering bug with x1250 (Bug #331522). Then I disabled the PPA because everything worked fine (No X-org updates, never touch a running system...). In the summer (august) a reinstallation of Ubuntu Jaunty forced me to install a newer X-org-edgers PPA.
