These crashes seem to be the result of the update to 9.10 not detecting my sound card correctly *or* as noted in other reports not updating /boot/grub/menu.lst to reflect the new kernel.( I had no sound as well)
As I needed a working machine I performed a fresh install of 9.10 which detected my sound card as HDA NVidia (ALC889A Analog) (in system settings - multimedia). I think in 9.04 it had simply stated PulseAudio. With the fresh install my sound worked fine with the exception of an audible "pop" when starting an application that uses sound. That was resolved by editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and changing the line "options snd-hda-intel power_save=10 power_save_controller=N" to "options snd-hda-intel power_save=0 power_save_controller=N" which in my understanding turns off power saving on my sound card. -- I clicked the "K" button and got this crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/465938 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
