I have to agree, because I was reporting this as a bug too. The current icon for deleting items is not clear at all, you also have to think about buttons' hints translations that can be confusing. For example, the Italian tanslation for the related hint on Evolution souds like "Marks the slected messages for deletion"... Not exactly as simple and clear as "Delete the selected messages". So confusing icon and confusing text... I'm not exactly an inexperienced user, and at first my favourite solution was to hit the "del" key on the keyboard, just because I knew what it was doing...
