As a temporary fix I can suggest setting up a separate partition for
/var/log. Say about 300 megs to a gig depending on the hdd size. Now
this will probably require non-primary partitions to be setup, but at
least it will keep the logs at bay until the patch is out.

The other solution is more involved, solving the overheating issues, in
my case resulted in a disassembly of the laptop, removal of 3 mm thick
layer of dust from the heat sink and replacement of factory heat pads
with thermal grease. Now running 30 Degrees C cooler (down to 54C from
85C). No more monster logs.

Unfortunately in the process I killed the keyboard. Anyone has one for
Dell Inspiron 1000 lying around?
