Same problem here. No usb storage device auto mounted on Lenovo laptop model N500. Manually mounting the devices would work OK. I removed the file /usr/share/hal/fdi/policy/10osvendor/20-storage-methods.fdi as above, restarted hal and the laptop is now recognising usb thumb drives fine
