well now it seems that when amarok scans the samba drive :

1. It doesn't complete.
2. The samba share is messed up. : I have several shares from the same 
computer, but only the one that amarok was using was inaccessable.
3. The entire system became unresponsive and I had to reboot.

there was no "crash" as such but it seemed worse than that as reboot was
the only option after the system froze -- seemed like I was back on
Windoze again for a moment :)

I have tried this several times with the same result.
