I'd like to add that I'm encountering this issue as well. This is a brand new install of Ubuntu 9.10 with a verified copy of the disc.
Running Gnome normally results, as others have reported, in a hard lockup that requires a power cycle to resolve. This generally happens within a few seconds of loading my desktop. Having read the advice of the earlier posters, I'm now running Gnome in failsafe mode and it seems to be working correctly. My motherboard is a Foxconn 95ctd with a 945GC+ICH7 Intel chipset. It's running a GMA950 video card. This machine is my kick-around box and Hackintosh project box. Leopard had been working flawlessly on it with acceleration enabled, so I'm fairly confident that the CPU, chipset and video are in working order. -- Gnome Freezes -- Ubuntu 9.10 -- big time freezes. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/461163 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
