Curious.  I am almost willing to chaulk this one up to server/internet
bandwidth issues, given that the problem is intermittent and such.
However, I would then expect that the player should be properly
buffering the  content before playing.
Maybe this is strictly a flash problem...

How about this?  Go to wikimedia and try viewing some of the videos on
that site.  Those videos are viewed through the new HTML5 embedded video
specs and are handled natively by firefox, not by a separate plugin.  If
those videos are fine, then I vote that this is partly a flash problem.
