i was affected too. after installing libatasmart from the ppa '/usr/lib/devicekit-disks/devkit-disks-helper-ata-smart-collect /dev/sdb 1' does not wake up my ST3250823AS (7200.8) drive anymore, thanks. pls add this to karmic updates.
