I had the same error i had jest finished reformatting an external us true gparted , because either hal or pmount was not recognising the flash drive and mounting it, i tried "lsusb" command to see if the system was recognising it at all it was but it was telling me it was a 4 gig flash when it is actually a 2gig fat16 partitioned flash drive ... i believe it was confusing this flash drive with an older flash drive i use to use in jaunty before upgrading to karmic koala , all this problems appeared after the installation of karmic true my network... to fix the issue i had to reinstall hal and pmount , but that wasn't enough i had to recompile the kernel true "sudo update-initramfs -u -k `uname -r`" after that i tried "udevadm monitor" to see if the usb was being recognised i tried plugging in and plugging out the flash drive , it responded accordingly but it was still not being mounted i look at "gconf-editor" to see if volumes where set to be displayed in nautilus , they where so i went to gparted to see if it was detecting it , it seemed to but what was unusual is that it was reporting an unknown format ,colored black, so i deleted the partition and reformatted it to fat16 to my surprise it automounted, in disbelieve i unplugged and re-plugged in the flash drive and everything was working!!!
i could finally write ,read, and see my flash drive ... going a step further i fired up VirtualBox to see if it would recognised it , the flash drive was being recognised i mounted it and attempted to write and read some files everything worked!!! i unmounted the flash drive ,to return it to the host , when this error came up... but luckily after unplugging and re-plugging in the flashdrive was still being recognised ...it automounted , problem now is that gparted continues to not recognise the file system type ,it is still black, and "lsusb" continues to recognise it as a 4gig flash drive but nautilus is contradicting "lsusb" by telling me it is a 2 gig flash drive despite all those draw backs from my solution my sytem continues to boot , i can see my flash drive true nautilus and i can read and write files in to it -- WARNING: at /build/buildd/linux-2.6.31/fs/buffer.c:1152 mark_buffer_dirty+0x70/0x90() https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/464927 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
