I've changed the package from pulseaudio to alsa-driver, which contains
the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf. Can somebody knowledgeable
about sound cards comment on this? If it is true that the card is being
switched off to save power, this seems rather silly to me, as I can't
imagine that switching the sound card off could save any amount of power
worth worrying about.

** Package changed: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) => alsa-driver (Ubuntu)
