I also have a Dell Vostro 1000 and ran into the same issue on resume after install of 9.10 Final. I did not have this issue on Jaunty.
Things I have tried: 1) nomodeset - I initially thought this might be related to kernel mode setting but this made no difference 2) HPET=disable - I was hopeful that this would work but did nothing I did have partial success with setting "noapic". The computer successfully resumed from suspend but somehow the filesystem had been mounted Read Only. Could this be an EXT4 thing or another resume bug? Also, this bug looks very similar to #360796 with the only difference being the use of free or non-free wireless drivers. https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/360796 -- [Dell Inc.
