Public bug reported:

I went through the upgrade process from 9.04 to 9.10. As I fully
expected per my past experience, errors only showed up at the
99%-complete marker. :-( Indeed, right on cue. Anyway, the update
routine tried to send you bug reports, but since I was not yet
registered for Launchpad, that failed. So now I don't know how to get
you the information. I don't even know if I'll be able to get into my
system once I try rebooting, which I have not yet tried.

I'll do the comnand-line thing you show on this forms page.

I saved three screen shots: an error to do with "could not install
'linux-image-2.6.31-14-generic'" (I was up to -16, however), which said
"please consider submitting a bug report" and "subprocess installed
post-installation script returned exit 2"; a second pop-up from karmic
that said "could not install the upgrades: the upgrade is now aborted.
Your system could be in an unstable state. A recovery will now run (dpkg
--configure -a)"; and a final pop-up that said Upgrade complete: the
upgrade is completed but there were errors during the upgrade process."

I guess I'll soon find out if my system is now toast. I made a backup
last night, luckily.

P.S. Using your suggestion for reporting a bug about the kernel via the
command-line failed. You suggested:

  ubuntu-bug -p linux

>From that I get:

   d...@nomotek-u:~$ ubuntu-bug -p linux
Warning: The options -p/-P are deprecated, please do not use them. See
/usr/bin/ubuntu-bug --help

(Followed by a frozen console terminal screen where ^C does not work.)

And then a pop-up that says: "The problem cannot be reported: This is
not a genuine Ubuntu package." Excuse me?

Okay, here's your alternative info as you requested:

  1) uname -a > uname-a.log
  2) cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
  3) dmesg > dmesg.log
  4) sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.log

I am unclear on how to get these to you.

Regards,
dman
