Public bug reported: Binary package hint: language-selector
Language Support downloads maybe 100 MB (just a guess, since it doesn't tell me total) more packages than I asked it to do. Entire help/doc translations for Gimp and Open Office for locales es, fr, de, pt, and maybe couple more, as well as Bengali fonts (maybe others, too) were downloaded even when not selected. Other things were downloaded as well, but I didn't know if they were dependants of what I actually did select or not. Same many, many extra packages both times I installed language support when I: selected only to install Korean language support (translations, input methods, and extra fonts) during Live CD session. selected only to install Korean, Japanese, and Chinese input methods, and nothing else (did not choose fonts or translations), on installed Karmic. This problem is in both my yesterday-upgraded Karmic from Jaunty and on the Karmic LiveCD environment. (I don't know if this affects Jaunty 9.04, since I didn't pay attention to what was downloaded when I added them on that version. I think this is a serious issue, especially for those with slower Internet connections and limited disk space. Thank you very much for you time~ Have a great day!!! ^_^ ProblemType: Bug Architecture: i386 Date: Sat Oct 31 02:55:02 2009 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 9.10 NonfreeKernelModules: wl Package: language-selector 0.4.18 PackageArchitecture: all ProcEnviron: LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.31-14.48-generic SourcePackage: language-selector Uname: Linux 2.6.31-14-generic i686 ** Affects: language-selector (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: apport-bug i386 -- Karmic Language Support downloads non-chosen and unnecessary packages https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/466319 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
