The update-manager did finish downloading all the packages. It broken when it was trying to install/configure the new packages. Sorry, that I don't remember the error it gave me. That was when I dropped to a command line and started various apt-get -f install and apt-get dist-upgrade and discovered that there was a dependency problem with oppenoffice.org and I eventually removed openoffice.org-core and apt- get dist-upgrade was able to complete installing/configuring packages. I did attach a tar file with all the dist-upgrade files plus my menu.lst. They look like they are there? -- I know now as men accept the time clock of the wilderness, their lives become entirely different.
