Public bug reported:

You boot from cd in live mode and mount a filesystem so you can backup
some files. You then forget to unmount the filesystem and start the
graphical installer. The installation stops, saying «Error: cannot write
filesystem» or something like that. It would be nice if the installer
stated the reason why it's unable to create it. «Cannot write
filesystem, because it is in use».

** Affects: Ubuntu
     Importance: Untriaged
         Status: Unconfirmed
