Martin-Éric and I are having a problem very like this one, but with non- encrypted partitions. Our bug is definitely not resolved in Karmic. It looks like we should be here: <https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /util-linux/+bug/426027>. Sorry for the confusion.
