After having tested it with the 'solutions' provided in this thread I
can say that the bug still affects me.

The DVD burner is correctly identified as UDMA2 both with and without the
optios at boot:
all_generic_ide=1
irqpoll

$ hdparm -i /dev/cdrom

/dev/cdrom:

 Model=TSSTcorp CDDVDW SN-S082H                , FwRev=SB01    , SerialNo=

 Config={ Fixed Removeable DTR<=5Mbs DTR>10Mbs nonMagnetic }
 RawCHS=0/0/0, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=0
 BuffType=unknown, BuffSize=0kB, MaxMultSect=0
 (maybe): CurCHS=0/0/0, CurSects=0, LBA=yes, LBAsects=0
 IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:383,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120}
 PIO modes:  pio0 pio1 pio2 pio3 pio4
 DMA modes:  mdma0 mdma1 mdma2
 UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 *udma2
 AdvancedPM=no

Reading DVD/CDs works fine, but I cannot burn.

This is the message I get any time I enter a blank dvd (tested with DVD-R)
[ 177.784082] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I recognize!
[  178.306282] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
[  178.306294] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0
[  178.504803] end_request: I/O error, dev sr0, sector 0
[  178.504817] Buffer I/O error on device sr0, logical block 0

As reported in the thread (#76), I sometimes manage to burn small size files
(although I try various speeds the burner never works faster than ~1.5X)
Trying to burn a DVD of about 3GB (or more) data inevitably fails.

$ uname -r

2.6.28-16-generic

gp
