Thanks. Disabling the touchpad in the BIOS has solved my problem. In Karmic, it is no longer possible to disable the touchpad in system>prefrences>mouse>touchpad. It seems a bit weird that the touchpad should be worn out already. The computer is only 1 1/2 years old. Is mouse failure to be expected? I thought thinkpads were of high quality. I got a 5 year old vaio where the mouse still works perfectly.
