I did what was recommended in bug/6627. "Could you put: deb http://www.grad.hr/~ivoks/ubuntu/gutenprint ./ in your /etc/apt/sources.list, run apt-get update ; apt-get upgrade" I installed it as a new repo in Synaptic and upgraded 9 packages. When I tested to print it worked immediately. So at last my trouble to boot into another OS every time I need to print anything is over. (I guess there is some reason why those packages not are in the normal repo.)
