Public bug reported: Binary package hint: udev
Similar to bug #460388, changes to udev cause issues when karmic is used with earlier kernels. Using a 2.6.18-16-generic kernel (latest one I could find before the one in karmic) under karmic, I was unable to get the sound card devices to appear without adding in these rules from the Debian udev package. # ALSA devices KERNEL=="controlC[0-9]*", NAME="snd/%k" KERNEL=="hwC[D0-9]*", NAME="snd/%k" KERNEL=="pcmC[D0-9cp]*", NAME="snd/%k" KERNEL=="midiC[D0-9]*", NAME="snd/%k" KERNEL=="timer", NAME="snd/%k" KERNEL=="seq", NAME="snd/%k" I realise that the 2.6.18-16-generic kernel isn't in karmic, but I can imagine that more than a few people might want to use earlier kernels, especially if the latest is giving them issues. In my case, I'm experiencing random freezes before the machine has even been up 24 hours. ** Affects: udev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Removed rules break sound cards in karmic with earlier kernels https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/460421 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
