I've try the "usplash stop" patch. It works fine (with a intel 845 graphics device).
Before applying this patch, I had to restart the computer about 3 times to got the gdm screen (without changing anything, just restarting with reset). Each time it doesn't load, I can see a strange image at the bottom of the screen and the cursor moving after few seconds. Then the monitor switch off and on (displaying the strange image).
