I think you misunderstand what I'm using. I'm using dm-crypt on the
/home partition, not the auto-magic encrypted home thing. If I leave
fstab setup to auto mount the /home of swap partitions it hangs during
boot. The work around is to add noauto to the flags for swap and /home.
Then when the system comes up I switch to the console, log in and
manually run "swapon -a" and "mount /home".

I reinstalled onto lvm on top of dm-crypt and it now works because there
is only one dm-crypt container. I wasn't using this setup before because
dm wouldn't pass barriers with multiple layers. Now it at least seems
like barriers work, I don't get any warnings from JBD on ext4.
