Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: udev

I just upgraded to Karmic rc from Jaunty. There are no outstanding
updates to install so I should be fully up to date.

udev appears to be placing snd devices in the wrong places. the device
controlC0 is in /dev, rather than /dev/snd, where pulse audio expects it
to be. This causes pulse audio to fall back to a dummy driver.

pulseaudio -vvvv gives this:
D: module-udev-detect.c: /dev/snd/controlC0 is accessible: no

However after creating some quick and dirty symlinks in dev/snd all
works as expected:

$ ls -l /dev/snd
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 60 2009-10-23 23:36 by-path
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 14 2009-10-24 00:16 controlC0 -> /dev/controlC0
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2009-10-24 00:17 pcmC0D0c -> /dev/pcmC0D0c
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2009-10-24 00:17 pcmC0D0p -> /dev/pcmC0D0p
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2009-10-24 00:17 pcmC0D1c -> /dev/pcmC0D1c
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2009-10-24 00:17 pcmC0D1p -> /dev/pcmC0D1p
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 2009-10-24 00:17 pcmC0D2c -> /dev/pcmC0D2c
