I have been struggling with getting Philips USB speakers (which worked fine with Gusty Gibbon) to work with Jaunty. I have set system>preferences>sound all outputs to "USB sound device USB audio ALSA" and volume control to "USB sound device (ALSA mixer)".
I now have USB sound output from Movie Player and Rhythm Box but PC speaker output from Realplayer 11, VLC player and iplayer.
