I was wrong. It's back today after a month-long absence. One hint
about recreating the problem:
1. Open several tabs in Firefox.
2. Install updates including xorg.
3. Restart the system.
4. Crash report appears as soon as xfce has restarted.
Note my system is totally up to date, ie herd4+.
