Ok, now I'm scratching my head... I've just noticed I haven't had any package updates since I started my distribution upgrade. So I start update manager and it was behaving like a fresh install where you have to click "check" to bring the package list down, else it thinks the packages are all up-to-date.
Having done that, it's then told me I need to do a partial distribution upgrade... 250Mb of packages later, hey presto, everything's working. The restricted driver tool can install the Nvidia drivers just fine, and no crashes. I really don't know what happened - it's safe to say that "lsb_release -a" was showing 9.10/Karmic before, and xsplash and GDM all gave the appearance the upgrade had completed. -- multiload-applet-2 crashed with SIGSEGV in gconf_engine_all_entries() - trying to install Nvidia driver https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/449915 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
