Public bug reported:

After some fiddling around with various mini-icons, setting and removing them
on the Desktop and Control Panel, klicking on 'shutdown' or 'restart' just
causes some system activity (DVD working) but nothing else happens. ScreenLock
is working.
I will have to press the hardware power switch.
No hints found in dmesg or .xsession-errors.
